The Name

Like any storied house on the campus of our college alma mater (Miami of Ohio), Kevin and I agreed that our lake house needed a name. Not just any name. We wanted to choose a name that embodied the spirit that we hope to foster in this house...a name rich in meaning, personal and memorable in character. Because we envision the house as a place to relax, have fun, and enjoy family and friends, we also wanted the name to be clever and playful. Given all these criteria, it was no surprise that it took a bit of time and a lot of creative energy before Kevin and I agreed that we had found the name for our house.

And so, Water to Wine was born! Not only is our house in Lake Chelan situated on the water and across from a winery, but we figure many of the best days there will begin with some sort of water activity and end with a little wine! But, don't worry the deeper meaning and essential spirit we wanted is wrapped in this name, too because as you know, Jesus' first miracle was to turn water into wine:

JOHN 2:1-11
1On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, 2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." ....Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.7Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. 8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." 11This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

Here's to Water to Wine...CHEERS!
